This thing is a beast.
I installed the FireFly 1100 in an old letterless 3D-cell Maglite and tested it in an abandoned tunnel. The throw is seriously impressive.
With the original incandescent setup, beveled lower edge or the original reflector rides against the pin inside the body, moving the bulb up and down and changing the focus. The FireFly has its own reflector with the LED fixed in position, so the original focusing mechanism no longer works.
It has three output levels, changed by quick turn on.
Two protected 26650s also give it excellent runtime.
Very happy with it.
Got this to upgrade my mom's 3D maglite. Also converted to use rechargeable batteries. Perfect strength for around the house. The initial one I received was defective and I reached out to Lumen Craft for resolution. They sent out a replacement one immediately. Great customer service. If you have and old incandescent maglite you want to bring back to life, I highly recommend this route.
Just received my firefly LED conversion My 6 cell D mag light has sat for years due to only having access to standard yellow bulb replacements. This LED is a game changer and now my mag light has been put back into action. Great product and fair price. Thank god there businesses out there that want to sell quality product. Thank you Lumencraft. !

This Firefly 800 lumen upgrade replaces a Fusion 1536 multiple LED upgrade that has been in my 3D Maglite for 10 years or so, using NiMH rechargeable batteries. This upgrade has much more of a thrower beam with a high intensity center spot and a quite noticeable dimmer surrounding cone of light compared to the basically unfocused blob of light put out by the Fusion conversion so throw is improved. The light cone is very similar in shape to that put out by my Wurkkos TS12 rated for 1350 Lumens maximum but is not as bright as the Wurkkos in it's Turbo mode. It is warmer in color hue however. With it's replacement reflector this no longer offers beam focusing but I have long thought that the original reflector on standard Maglites needed redesign to eliminate the enormous doughnut hole that is visible at most beam adjustment positions. This has been visible in both incandescent lights and single LED upgrades that utilize the original incandescent reflector. One thing this seller needs to list is the difference in light output, if any, when this is installed in different battery configuration Maglites with from 3 to 6 NIMH D cells.
Great light! Works very well with the twin 26650 conversion in a 2D maglite. Good build quality, very bright and a good beam.
However, warning to those with an older maglite that they want to convert! Some older lights have an extra lip in the head of the light. This will stop the insert from seating fully, even if you remove the extra ring. To fix this, you have to grind down the diameter of the bottom two fins on the insert.
To easily check if your light will have this issue, measure the diameter of the lip, if it is around 1.875 inches or larger, you will be fine. Any smaller though, and you may run into issues.
Apparently my batteries were not as fresh as I thought. Replaced with 4 new batteries
and the flashlight works great.
800 lumen is exactly what I was looking for. I began wanting to have a Maglite wand, but the incandescent light I had was not as powerful as I would like it to be so I replaced the incandescent with this 800 and low and behold exactly what I was looking for. Again packing was impeccable, wish Lumencraft would teach other companies to pack their items for customers.
My 4-D Maglite is one of the old ones. One night (a long ime ago) I held it in one hand and my Detonics MkV in the other, and took out a coyote trying to raid my chicken coop. No way will I simply toss this thing. Took me about five minutes to install the Firefly setup. Before I installed it, I did a final flash with the existing bulb and the semi-old D-cells. Not too impressive. Made the switch, also installing the new hi-impact glass lens. BAM! OH YEAH! Installed a new set of D cells and we are now cookin' in the fast lane! Next Coyote will get the Remington Tac-14 (another upgrade).
I have two 3 D cell maglite's , one is 33 years old, the other is 15 years old. This is an AWESOME upgrade. I have no more leaking D cell batteries to deal with. I bought the Firefly 800 Lumen 3-6 D Cell LED as well as the smaller end cap spring, battery sleeve to install two 26650 batteries, Scratch Resistant glass lens, I made a fake battery spacer to take up the room that was left where the 3rd battery went, and it all works FANTASTIC!! Now it's like the SUPER MAG-LITE FROM HELL!!! The old halogen bulb that was in it, is somewhere in the Tacoma Wa Landfill. :-D :-D :-D
Like many you have discovered that even after removing the Extra Adapter Ring, that you are unable to screw the Bezel WITH the O-Ring and Clear Lens.
There is a "Fix" but it is not manufacture recommended. Cover the LED with thick tape ( not touching the LED surface ) to act as a protection. Then using a rough metal file, place the file on a flat surface, and placing the head down onto the file, evenly and gently file down approximately 1/16" of the top of the head, this is good metal and will take about 40 minutes. Clean up the surfaces, remove the tape protecting the LED, and the Bezel will screw on with the O-Ring and Lens quite securely
Disappointed this mod no longer allows for the fit of the plastic lens onto the bezel. Tried it on two separate Mag 3-D’s and same issue. Yes, I removed the additional rings but that only helps with the head install. Kinda feeling like I would have been better off getting less expensive LED replacement bulb only.
If you have a mag light, this is a must have. It’s easy to install and is very high quality. Other upgrades I’ve tried are gimmicky, not this one! This is something you can set and forget. I’ve been running this mod for almost 2 years and it is still running strong. It is a reliable mod that will make your mag light actually useful! You’ll be glad you made the switch!
The best i have used so far. Thanks Matt Smith
A lot brighter than stock and the older led bulbs from 10 years ago. Easy to control.
My old 4D Maglite was about to get tossed. Back in the day this thing was awesome. Not only was it a flashlight but also a skull crusher if needed. Flash forward (pun intended) to today where flashlights can light up a ball park and this thing is now barely a night light for my kids room. I decided to search the internet to try and find alternatives before throwing it in the recycle bin and came across this website. I ordered the Firefly 800 lumen upgrade. At first, I thought it was a lot to spend, but all of the flashlights I looked at to replace the Maglite were more money. The install was easy and when I turned it on (BOOM), my Maglite was now cool again. My son said it looked like daytime in his bedroom. Focusing the light stream no longer works but is not needed in my opinion as you get a focused beam in the center and a flood of light on the outside of that beam. As you click through the on/off button, it starts with the highest level beam and then goes to medium and then a low setting. Not sure I am a fan of this as I will mostly use the bright setting. All in all, money well spent.
The FireFly 800 Lumen Drop In blows away the cheaper LED upgrade emitters. It has 3 very well spaced mode levels with memory. It has great throw with decent spill. A good overall combination beam. I run mine in a 2 D Cell Maglite using the ASF 26650 Body Sleeve Kit, high temp glass lens, Silver Plated Copper Core Switch Tower Spring, & shorty tail cap spring with a bypass wire. With this setup it has great run time on high with no step downs in output. Unlike smaller 18650 flashlights it never gets hot, only warm. A very practical Maglite upgrade! Conclusion: Matt Smith, The Maestro Of Maglites!
Just to add to my fist comments. There's no impact specs for this dropin but I can say from an unintentional test, I was doing something at my second floor open bedroom window when the light fell out on the roofing above the garage then to the driveway,10' fall, light works perfect still!
I bought the FireFly dropin is I guess you could call it LED upgrade for an old 3D Maglite that was an incan light. Big increase in light output, it's rated at 800 lm by ASF and it seems to look like it is, Matt at Adventure Sport says his upgrades are actual lumen rated, I don't have any way to measure output other than comparing lghts. I'm happy with lumen output and good to see 3 levels L-M-H , I do wish it was available with a warmer tint but it's not a very "cool" tint either. It has mode memory which good but the negative for my with this dropin is the on time memory, the light mode must be on a mode for about 4~5 seconds before it stays (memorizes) the mode in use, almost making it a "click to next mode" light which I really do not like, 1 second on time memory would really make this dropin so much better. Matt at AS seems trust worthy and build quality is very good.Nice upgrade, but pls fix memory
Much brighter than oem. I installed it on my pre-D light. I couldn't get it turn on then it would change modes or would turn off. I then got a 5/16 flat washer sanded both sides and the opening put thru the bottom of the bulb. I had a ground issue. Lights up and no problems since.
Been collecting lights since 1996 starting off with full size Mags. Fast forward almost 21 years and I have tried near every full size Mag drop in during that time trying to get the most out of the big lights. This FireFly is amazing. The output to my eyes looks to be at or just above the output claim. The beam is STELLAR! It is so clean! Matt has one upped Malkoff with this one. I like it so much I am buying another.
